would you hold it against me

eddie’s never done a body shot. buck volunteers. it goes exactly as well as you’d expect // 3k, T

“Want to play Never Have I Ever?” Buck asks.

Eddie blinks and nods his assent, and there’s a vague cheer from the circle of people gathered around him.

He gets through the first couple of rounds without drawing attention to himself, but then someone sitting across from him says, “Never have I ever done a body shot.”

The guy next to them bursts out laughing. “You have, too.”

The first person grins. “Oops,” they say, lifting their glass to their lips as everyone around the circle takes a drink.

Everyone except Eddie. Buck turns to frown at him, and then everyone else does too. “Never?” Buck asks.

“Never,” Eddie shrugs. “Body shots aren’t exactly huge at army parties.” Someone across the circle snorts.

“Well, do you want to?” It’s the person who’d first brought it up, their head tilted as if to assess Eddie. The movement makes the light glint off their septum piercing.

“I, uh—” Eddie says, looking around the circle of people. It’s not that he’s opposed to the concept of a body shot necessarily, just that the only thing he knows about these people is that one of them is called Spencer. He’s not even sure which one. Then—

“You could do it off me,” Buck says beside him, like he’s reading his mind. “Just, I mean—since you already know me—”

It’s a bad idea. He knows for absolute certain that it’s a terrible idea. But something wavered in Buck’s voice when he said it and he heard Buck swallowing as soon as he got the words out, and his every atom wants to prod at that until he figures out what it means.

“Okay,” he says.
